If you choose not to eat meat, not to worry, plenty of protein sources exist when it comes to plants. Eating a wide variety of plant-based proteins is important to ensure you’re eating complementary proteins.

Complementary proteins are foods that contain different types and amounts of amino acids. Eating these foods together (e.g., beans and rice) ensures you eat complete protein sources, since amino acids are the building blocks for protein.

  • Nuts
  • Nut Butters
  • Quinoa
  • Chia Seeds
  • Seeds
  • Seed Butters
  • Tofu (Firm)
  • Tempeh
  • Beans*
  • Lentils*
  • Legumes*
  • Mushrooms

Other Vegetarian Protein Sources:

  • Eggs
  • Dairy products such as cheese and yogurt*

*Only if not avoiding this particular FODMAP food
