Getting to the root cause of chronic gut issues has long proven difficult for the 60 million Americans impacted by GI conditions in the United States alone. At Salvo Health, our uniquely designed Whole Self Science™ approach aims to meet chronic gut sufferers where they are and support each member in identifying the root cause for their symptoms via a virtually accessible clinic, guided by the nation’s leading gastroenterology and functional medicine researchers and biotechnology.

Today, Salvo Health announces a new partnership with Gemelli Biotech to add to the spokes of our Whole Self Science wheel and give Salvo Health members access to industry-leading, GI diagnostic testing with at-home sample collection. Gone are the long travel days to specialty labs! This partnership will offer access to these tests for patients in the 29 U.S. states served by Salvo Health today, which represent over 75% of the U.S. population.

A pioneer in the diagnostics space, Gemelli Biotech develops precision lab tests for diseases of the gut including the microbiome. Thanks to this partnership, Salvo Health’s Board-certified physicians can now order Gemelli’s non-invasive, precision diagnostics to detect validated biomarkers and diagnose and treat GI diseases including Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (IMO), excess hydrogen sulfide, and post-infectious Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). In addition, one of the nation’s leading GI researchers and a founding member of Salvo Health’s own Clinical Advisory Board, Dr. Mark Pimentel of Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, serves as one of the founders and scientific advisors at Gemelli Biotech and has been pivotal in the development of these state-of-the-art smart tests and this partnership.

So, what makes the trio-smart® and ibs-smart® biotechnology best in class?

trio-smart® breath test

The trio-smart® breath test is the only mail-in breath test available with an at-home collection kit that measures all three of the primary fermented gasses in the microbiome and can be used to significantly aid in the diagnosis of SIBO, IMO, and excess hydrogen sulfide. In comparison, earlier SIBO tests on the market only covered testing for methane and hydrogen levels, but not hydrogen sulfide. The trio-smart® test also adds greater accuracy by using a proprietary “sealed” breath-collection system to capture a more accurate sample collection from the convenience of patients’ homes. In addition, this smart test has a more precise gas measurement device, significantly reducing the risk of false positives and false negatives.

ibs-smart® blood test

Available to Salvo Health members by early spring of 2023, the ibs-smart® blood test is the only blood test available that measures the levels of two antibodies known to be elevated in patients with post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which is IBS brought on by past food poisoning or GI infection. This blood test offers physicians a more definitive diagnosis for many cases of both diarrhea-predominant (IBS-D) and mixed-type irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-M).

{{cta-1}}

It is no secret that IBS has often been described as a “diagnosis of exclusion”, a catch-all term after doctors rule out other possible causes. But now, for the 10-15% of the worldwide population that suffers from IBS, the combination of these smart tests can offer patients a clear, clinical, and actionable diagnosis without expensive or invasive endoscopic procedures.

For Salvo Health members, and those patients in medical groups and hospital systems partnering with Salvo Health, the advantages are many. Aside from avoiding unnecessary surgical procedures, knowing the root cause of your gut symptoms can significantly aid doctors in creating your personalized treatment plan and get you on the path to “gut better” together.

*Diagnostic testing is not included in the price of membership. For additional questions about this partnership or more information on the ibs-smart® and trio-smart® diagnostic tests, please email support@salvohealth.com.
