New York, NY – [June 5, 2025] — Salvo Health, the startup reimagining the gastrointestinal (GI) care of the future, today announced that it has passed 700 board-certified GI physicians that have contracted with Salvo to augment their care between in-person clinic visits. This represents over 14% of all independent board-certified GI physicians in the US, and growing monthly.

In addition, Salvo has signed an agreement with a leading Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) in the gastroenterology space, to serve as their partner for Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM). This GPO collaborates with independent GI practices representing over half of the independent GI physicians in the U.S., and its national sales force distributes approved vendor solutions to its member practices.

To fund deployment with signed GI provider groups across nine new states, Salvo announced today a $4M Seed Prime round to fund scale-up of its clinical staff including dietitians, behavioral health specialists, and nurses, as well as its continued investment in Sano, Salvo’s proprietary technology stack that orchestrates personalized care plans for each patient.

The round includes participation from existing investors City Light, Human Ventures, Threshold, Alumni Ventures, Felicis, and Torch Capital, alongside new investor The Artemis Fund.

Salvo partners with trusted community GI providers to act as an extension of their team and give their digestive and metabolic patients access to a “hybrid” model, the best of in-person physician care and the best of daily digital support. Salvo Health care is covered by both commercial insurance and Medicare. Each patient living with a chronic condition receives a team behind them, working in coordination with their local GI physician: a registered dietitian, a GI-trained nurse, and behavioral health support, both for monthly appointments and daily care in the Salvo mobile app.

Salvo expands access, improves outcomes, and frees up time of GI physicians for more acute cases and procedures. The company’s approach addresses a major gap in the U.S. healthcare system, where patients often face fragmented care, long wait times, and minimal follow-on care after a diagnosis and between visits.

“Patients tell us every day that they feel heard and taken seriously in their GI and metabolic symptoms and struggles. They feel expert care not just at occasional appointments, but as if they have a ‘dietitian in their pocket’ whenever they encounter questions and concerns,” said Jeff Glueck, CEO and Founder of Salvo Health. “We provide to leading GI’s all the staff and technology they need to adhere to comprehensive care under AGA and AASLD guidelines, incorporating the latest evidence on Food as Medicine, mental health, the microbiome, and brain-gut communication as first-class elements in care delivery.”

At the heart of Salvo’s model is Whole Self Science™, an integrative framework that understands digestive health as a result of biological, behavioral, and lifestyle factors. This approach allows Salvo to deliver faster symptom relief, fewer emergency room visits, and better long-term health outcomes. Among its early patient population, 86% of whom are women, Salvo reports significant improvements in quality of life and symptom reduction within four weeks of care.

The market need is urgent and growing:

  • Over 80 million Americans live with chronic GI or metabolic liver conditions, including IBS, MASH/MASLD, and IBD.
  • Digestive issues now account for $136 billion in annual healthcare costs
  • Only 16,000 GI physicians currently practice in the U.S., and more than half are approaching retirement
  • Nearly 1 in 5 counties has fewer than five practicing gastroenterologists

“Digestive health has entered the mainstream conversation, yet the care model hasn’t evolved to meet modern needs,” said Marin Rothenberg, COO. “Our platform helps patients avoid unnecessary ER visits, while also driving profitability and efficiency for GI clinics through our exclusive partnerships.”

Salvo’s differentiated go-to-market strategy focuses on being a deep strategic partner for GI provider groups, rather than bypassing in-network local physicians (as so many early “all-digital” models have done). Salvo instead partners to create hybrid care.

The leadership team includes:

  • Jeff Glueck, CEO, former CEO of Foursquare, and former Chief Marketing Officer of Travelocity
  • Marin Rothenberg, COO, former Head of Operations at AbleTo
  • Dr. Erin Hendriks, CMO, a quadruple board-certified physician and expert in women’s health, obesity medicine, and lifestyle medicine

“Salvo is building the modern infrastructure that GI care has been missing: virtual-first, interdisciplinary, and designed to scale,” said Diana Murakhovskaya, General Partner at The Artemis Fund. “Their model is deeply defensible, combining clinical excellence, proprietary partnerships, and a go-to-market strategy that improves patient outcomes while driving lasting value across the healthcare ecosystem.”
